Mrs. McHale’s Third Grade Class

Embrace God's Universe

“You have brains in your head.

You have feet in your shoes.

You can steer yourself

Any direction you choose.

You’re on your own.  And you know what you know.

And YOU are the guy who’ll decide where to go.”

Dr. Seuss

In math 3A is focusing on rounding and comparing numbers.  We used our place value to help us compare large numbers.  Our class will begin with rounding two digit numbers and working our way up to four digit numbers.  Sometimes we will round to the ten, hundreds, or thousands.  There is a cute little song that your child will be singing to help them remember the rounding rules.  Even though our chapter does not focus on addition and subtraction, we have been playing a flashcard game to work on our speed.

The class loved our Talk Like a Pirate Day in September.  Keeping with the pirate theme, the class is now working on map skills.  We brainstormed and made a web of all the different maps we could think of and all the things we can find on maps.  In this unit the students will focus on the 6 different types of maps, the continents, oceans, Great Lakes, and in the end will make their own map!

This week we are working on long o words in spelling: load, opening, told, yellow, soak, shadow, foam, follow, glow, sold, window, coach, almost, throat, cold, most, tomorrow, sailboats
