Learning Through Art: Beneficial Connections for Whole Child Development

Miss Filipek's Art Education Classroom

The visual arts is taught to all students grades K-8 on a weekly basis.  Through the art education process, students develop and explore their creativity, a necessary skill for the 21st century.  At St. Joan of Arc, we believe that learning through art creates beneficial connections for brain-based whole child development.

  • ART supports whole-brain development
  • integrates cross-curricular activities
  • encourages critical thinking and problem-solving abilities
  • enhances fine-motor development
  • is therapeutic
  • assists in socialization
  • is essential in cognitive development
  • increases awareness for aesthetic appreciation
  • supports the Multiple Intelligence Theory
  • allows for creative expression
  • is a universal language
  • And let us not forget....
  • ART is just plain fun!

In our God-centered environment, students will use their individual skills and imagination to complete a variety of projects.  The majority of art projects are kept in their art folders that stay in school.  During the year, the students and I will review their folders for selections in preparation for the annual art show held in early June.  The art show is a wonderful display of our SJA talent!
