Mrs. Osborne's First GradeB Classroom

WHAT IS A FIRST GRADE CLASS?

A first grade class is a group of children, six years old, some of which look, act, think, behave or grow in the same way.  Its members are all victims of a magical age during which they pass from five-year-old babies to seven-year-old

children.  It comes with assorted needs ranging form Kleenex to affection.  It has stars in its eyes and loose teeth in its mouth; questions on its mind, Band-Aides on its knees,  forgiveness in its heart, and peanut butter sandwiches for lunch.

A first grade class is able to put more things on a teacher’s desk during the first minute of school than any other class can accomplish in a full day.  Some of the items are: two bouquets of flowers, six wilted leaves, a piece of birthday cake, a pretty stone, three records, a favorite storybook. a turtle, a broken thermos, and a nest of three newly hatched dead birds.

A first grade class is able to steal all the teacher’ s time with just an evenly divided unp lanned effort; a s kinned knee, lost lunch, broken zipper, measles breakout, untied shoes, two small boots, conference request, and needed affection for one with a little brother or sister. These all help to fill the day nicely.

A first grade class spends much time on a teacher’s feet, but more upon her thoughts.  It can turn her stomach during lunch and her thoughts during supper.  It spills milk on her dress and satisfaction in her soul.  It leaves her with a headache at three o’clock in the afternoon and greets her with a big smile at eight o’clock in the morning.  It brings noise during the day and peace during the nights.  It takes everything out of her but gives far more back.  A first grade class is the only one of its kind and the Mrs. Osborne would not trade it for any other!

EXTRA!  EXTRA!  READ ALL ABOUT IT!

Boys and Girls!  Let's "Spread the Good News."  In Palestine during the time of Jesus, shepherds cared for the most important domestic animal, the sheep.  They guided their flock to grass and water.  They protected their sheep from predators.  They knew each sheep and the sheep responded only to their voice.  You will learn that Jesus is like a good shepherd.  He loves, cares, and knows you each by name.

Welcome to Grade One Math!  You will learn about numbers, shapes, graphs, and patterns.  We will start with things you already know - counting, sorting, and ordering.  You will add, subtract, and problem solve too!

Hip Hip Hooray We're on our way to Reading Street where the love of reading begins.  We'll enjoy stories about friendly and wild animals in our first reader.

So come along and join the FUN!

First Grade is number ONE!
