Kindergarten Curriculum
RELIGION
A student will be able to:
- be aware of God in his or her daily life
- know that God's love is experienced through creation,
the five senses, other people, and in the teachings of Jesus
- celebrate the importance of the church seasons - especially
Advent, Christmas, Lent, and Easter
- recite from memory the Our Father, Hail Mary and Sign of the Cross
SOCIAL STUDIES
The students will be able to:
- heighten awareness of self and basic needs
- follow simple and reasonable school rules
- develop an understanding about children, families, events in other
times and places through art and literature
- enjoy celebrating many different holidays with some understanding of their significance
- develop an understanding of school and neighborhood community
- understand and apply basic map skills
- identify and respect community helpers
- learning life skills to handle conflicts non-violently
Language Arts
A student will be able to:
- identify and print upper/lower case letters of the alphabet
- recognize letter sounds
- make predictions using picture clues
- follow simple oral directions
- print his/her own name
- appreciate listening to readings of different forms of literature
- identify and locate parts of a book
- sequence pictures to determine story order
- begin to distinguish between real and imaginary
- participate in a discussion or story
- relate information to personal experience
- discuss alternative endings to stories
- pa rticipate in daily shared oral language experiences using
rhyme, rhythm, and repetition
- use developmentally appropriate speech patterns
SCIENCE
A student will be able to:
- better understand living and non-living things
- respect and appreciate Earth's gifts and to use them carefully
- identify the four seasons and discuss weather/activity changes
- observe and describe physical changes in the environment
- recognize some characteristics of plants and animals and their importance to our world
- observe and participate in simple classroom experiments
MATH
A student will be able to:
- develop number sense and an ability to represent numbers in a variety of forms
- develop spatial sense and an ability to recognize and work with patterns and shapes
- understand and apply counting numbers and one to one correspondence
- develop an understanding of basic concepts involving time, money, and measurement
- develop an understanding of gathering data, graphing, and drawing conclusions
- develop an ability to sort and classify objects
- develop an understanding of addition and subtraction through the use of manipulatives
and storytelling
- develop an understanding of basic mathematical terms
Our Kindergarten Program Features:

Socialization Skills
A student will be able to:
- develop self control in group activities
- take responsibility for his/her actions and realize there are consequences
- experience a variety of hands on activities
- work cooperatively on group activities
ART
A student will be able to:
- experiment with a variety of basic art media
- develop fine motor skills through drawing, painting, coloring, cutting, gluing and modeling
- explore art history and some famous works of art
COMPUTER
A student will be able to:
- identify certain computer parts
- develop basic mouse skills
- exit a program
- use a variety of computer programs to enhance skills in other subject areas
LIBRARY
A student will be able to:
- visit weekly and check out a library book for the week
- identify the structure of a book and the proper treatment of a book
- enjoy weekly story time after checking out their book
MUSIC
A student will be able to:
- feel and move to a steady beat
- imitate short rhythmic patterns
- differentiate between high and low sounds
- participate in finger play and singing games
- sing simple songs
- sing and praise God with Church songs
PHYSICAL EDUCATION
A student will be able to:
- practice basic manipulative skills with equipment -
bean bags, balls, hoops, scooters, jump ropes, and parachutes
- explore locomotor movements
- play recreational games
SPANISH
A student will be able to:
- comprehend and respond appropriately in Spanish when greeted and following a command
- name the primary, secondary, and neutral colors in Spanish
- count from zero to ten in Spanish
- sing and comprehend Spanish songs
- identify foods, clothing, classroom objects, community, and family
